Constructionarium's Gherkin Recieves a Certificate of Merit

At the recent Structural Steel Design Awards, the Gherkin project was awarded a Certificate of Merit for the use of  "steelwork as part of an outstanding training initiative". The steelwork was donated by Caunton Engineering Ltd whose apprentices originally built the structure offsite prior to its use at Constructionarium's Bircham Newton site. The first team to tackle the task of erecting the steel tower was from Imperial College with John Doyle Construction as their contractor partner and Expedition as their structural engineer. The student project has now been constructed ,dismantled and reconstructed several times. The steel has been treated to assist its durability and exposure to weather.
